    THE AGE OF GENESIS
    November, 2007 - December, 2007

On November 2, 2007, under the auspices of running a strategy game for the members of the GameFAQs Star Wars Board (hereafter referred to as Ye Olde 223), users adamg0d and Wedge_Antilles created the board that would eventually become known as the Neo 223. The board, at this point, was little more than an interface for Galactic Conquest. However, social interaction amongst the board members was high and a budding community that transcended the game soon formed. When the game ended, the community remained intact and it was eventually decided that the board should continue on as a bastion for the unique culture found amongst the more respectable members of ye olde 223. The end of the Age of Genesis conincided with the end of the first Galactic Conquest, whereupon changes in the nature and direction of the board gave way to the Age of Expansion.

The First War of Galactic Conquest

Galactic Conquest was a strategy game originally created by Wedge_Antilles, who also GMed its first instance. Compared to current iterations of the game, the original Galactic Conquest was fairly simplistic, lacking any tech trees, terrain, mission cards, or battle tactics. Problems began to crop up swiftly; the use of X-Wing Alliance as a simulation tool drew criticism and accusations of imbalance; only the highest tiered ships were worth purchasing, the Empire had no way of countering rebel starfighter supremacy (with their only major starfighter carrier besides a Star Destroyer being used as an Alliance ship) and the Rebels had no counter for the Imperial Super Star Destroyer, which could take on entire fleets by itself. This tended to limit the tactical planning side to fleet construction; by the end of the game, both sides simply purchased as many of the highest-tiered capital ships as they could and decided where they should be put. The capital planets were worth an incredible 3000 credits apeice, which made their capture an almost instant game-winner. Finally, the Gamemastering of Admiral_Wedge_Antilles was placed under significant scrutiny, after admissions of favouritism and sim-slanting erroded faith between him and the players. In spite of these problems, a fun time was had by all and even before the Imperials claimed victory, plans were already underway for sequels, with darkknight109 opting to take over running the "classic" stream of Galactic Conquest, while Admiral_Wedge_Antilles opted instead to take the game in a new, more individualistic direction with Galactic Conquest Warlords.

Imperials (winners): adamg0d, darkknight109, accessgranter, GuardianAnubite, Krudin
Rebels (losers): swjm, Antican, Westley_Janson, Wing Phenoix, Face_Loran

    Notable Conflicts
The First Battle of Kashyyyk (Turn 1): The first battle ever fought in GC. Featured the fleets of adamg0d, darkknight109, and Krudin against the rebel defence fleet at Kashyyyk and, due to a clerical error, the fleet of Wing Phenoix. Resulted in a close-fought Imperial defeat.
The Seizing of Coruscant (Turn 5): A thunderous battle for the Imperial Capital and one of the largest fought in the entire conflict. Rebel admiral Face_Loran attacked the heavily fortified capital and managed to seize it with only a single Assault Frigate and Winged Mon Cal Cruiser remaining. This attack brought the Empire to its knees and very nearly dealt the deathblow to the Imperial war effort.
The Coruscanti Reclaimiation (Turn 7): Throwing everything they had into a reclaimation attempt, the Empire invested a full two turns of income into the nearby fleet of accessgranter and sent it to reconquer the Imperial Capital. The effort paid off; in spite of facing a strong Coruscant defence fleet and the fleet of Face_Loran, the Empire was victorious and drove back the rebel raiders, swinging the momentum back in the Empire's favour.
Ambush at Kashyyyk (Turn 13): The Empire pressed deep into rebel territory and held a distinctive tactical edge. However, the rebels countered by building up their Grand Admiral's fleet into a monstrous attack force that smashed apart Imperial garrisons with ease. Deciding to set a trap for this power-fleet, the Empire chose Kashyyyk as their staging ground, on a hunch that it would be the rebel Grand Admiral swjm's next target. Imperial Grand Admiral adamg0d brought his own fleet to the planet, while the Kashyyyk defence fleet was augmented and provided with Interdictors to prevent a rebel escape. As expected, swjm's fleet launched an attack on Kashyyyk. In the bloodbath that followed, casualties on both sides were astronomical, but the planning of the Empire carried the day; the rebel fleet was destroyed to a ship and with it died the last chance for a Rebel victory. The Rebels surrendered shortly thereafter.

    THE AGE OF EXPANSION
    January 2008 - May 2008

At the end of the First War of Galactic Conquest, the board enjoyed a time of expansion and prosperity. Two more games of Galactic Conquest were planned and started in rapid succession, one in the same vein of the original Galactic Conquest, and one a new experimental game based on the same principles. Several new users were recruited from Ye Olde 223, although not in the numbers found in the Age of Genesis. However, where the users from the Age of Genesis had all been participants in the First War of Galactic Conquest, several of the new users simply joined to socialize, a marked change in board conduct. This age also marks the decline of Galactic Conquest's founder, Admiral_Wedge_Antilles. After a series of disagreements with various board members, Wedge eventually stepped down as a GM, then ceased visiting the board altogether. The Age of Expansion ended with the dissapearence of the forum administrator adamg0d, plunging the board into the era that would become known as The Dark Ages of the Neo-223.

The Second War of Galactic Conquest

The first iteration of Galactic Conquest game-mastered by darkknight109, the GM change brought with it a sweeping overhaul of much of the Galactic Conquest system. Instead of the imbalanced X-Wing Alliance, Star Wars: Rebellion was used as a sim tool. Capitals were reduced in value to just 2000 credits a side, and a tech ladder was introduced to allow for more variation amongst fleets. For the first time, starfighters were purchased seperately from capital ships, and conquering multiple planets now gained the conquering side a Mission Card, which could be used to augment their attacks. Overall, this led to a more stable, balanced game, but it was still plagued by problems. The Imperial players discovered that, by investing all of their starting cash into R&D, they could climb the tech ladder in a single turn. This led to a gross proliferation of Super Star Destroyers, both in defensive fleets, and on offence. Researched ships grossly outclassed basic ships in Rebellion, so this left the Alliance at a significant disadvantage. Anti-starfighter ships, such as the lancer frigate and the corellian gunship, were dirt cheap to purchase and incredibly effective, making starfighters all but useless, even in large numbers. Finally, Rebellion required nothing short of black magic to work properly as a simulation tool, leading to constant delays of turns.

    Participants:
    Gamemaster: darkknight109
Imperials (Winners): adamg0d, accessgranter, Krudin, GuardianAnubite, Ringlord71
Rebels (Losers): Admiral_Wedge_Antilles, lil_literalist, utelektr, Face_Loran, Wing Phenoix

    Notable Conflicts:
The Coruscant Rebellion (Turn 13) A colossal conflict for the Imperial capital, where the Rebels, using two fleets including three Bulwark Battlecruisers, attacked the capital, guarded by a single Super Star Destroyer and supported by a defence fleet, a huge swarm of starfighters, and the fleet of Imperial Admiral Krudin. After a devastating battle, it would be the rebels that would emerge victorious. However, the Empire struck back with four attacks the following turn, virtually nullifying the rebels' gain and sealing their fate. To date, it holds the record for largest number of top-tier ships fielded by one side (three Bulwark Cruisers by the Rebellion) and largest number of top tier ships total (four).

    The First Galactic Warlords Conflict

The brainchild of Admiral_Wedge_Antilles, Galactic Conquest: Warlords was meant to be an every-man-for-himself version of Galactic Conquest, where the players would plot, scheme, strategize, and betray their way to Galactic dominance. X-Wing Alliance was used as a simulation tool, but the price lists were revamped to make high-end ships prohibitively expensive, thus limiting their use. Unlike regular Galactic Conquest, ships were not assigned to fleets, and could travel in as many seperate groups as they pleased. Furthermore, there were no dedicated defensive fleets, encouraging a more conservative, cautious approach. In the original version of the game, long-term alliances were strongly discouraged (allied ships would occasionally attack each other if the GM determined the alliance had lasted too long) and mergers were forbidden. Midway through the game, Wedge resigned as GM due to disputes with several board members, and frustrations with the actions of several players. At this point, accessgranter took over as the GM of Warlords, slightly modifying the rules and easing the restrictions on alliances and mergers. Also around this time, Westley_Janson and Antican were replaced by the eventual Warlords victor darkknight109 due to inactivity.

Early momentum was seized by Krudin, as he carved out a sizable empire in the southwest end of the map. Not far behind was adamg0d, establishing a solid hold to the Northeast. Shortly after his takeover of the inactive faction, darkknight109 led his fleets against the forces of Wing Phenoix, before forming an alliance with adamg0d for a campaign against Krudin. Meanwhile, in the Galactic Northwest, a long-standing conflict was finally being settled, with GuardianAnubite emerging as the dominant faction. As the game drew to a close, three major factions remained: GuardianAnubite in the Northwest, adamg0d in the Northeast, and darkknight109 in the South. All three factions were of identical size. Eventually, the three opted to finish the game quickly, rather than drag it on for several more weeks, and GuardianAnubite and adamg0d surrendered to darkknight109.

    The Butters Incident
In mid-February, 2008, SWB user Butters (known by a variety of account names) registered on the Neo-223, prompting outrage from many of the board members who saw him as a troll and a rabble-rouser. However, Butters was an old friend of adam's from Ogame and adam made a request for the board to give Butters a chance. After several inflamatory posts, the community's patience expired and the calls to ban Butters were renewed. Butters was eventually banned, but only for a period of 8 days. adamg0d alleged that the short ban period was a clerical oversight, but made no attempt to reinstate the ban. Finally, the issue drew to a head when several members threatened to withdraw from Galactic Conquest if Butters was not dealt with. adamg0d offered a compromise; if 10 members of the community requested that butters be banned, he would be removed permanently from the forum. In response, darkknight109 created a petition to ban butters and circulated it amongst the board's 12 active members, eventually receiving the requisite 10 requests. On March 11, 2008, Butters was IP banned and permanently removed from the Neo-223. As a direct result of the incident, on March 21, 2008, darkknight109 and accessgranter became global moderators. Butters has made several attempts to circumvent his IP ban, but has been banned each time by either access or DK.

The Third War of Galactic Conquest

The third iteration of Galactic Conquest was an interesting experiment at an "over-the-table", GM-less version of Galactic Conquest. Rather than having fleets hidden, as was the case with every other game of GC, Galactic Conquest 3 was conducted so that the movements and compositions of both fleets were public, with only planning and discussion taking place in private. darkknight109 and adamg0d shared administrative duties to keep the game running smoothly. Originally, it was intended that players would fight any battles their fleets got into using Rebellion; however, the arcane techno-sorcery required to make the ancient algorythms of Rebellion function were fickle indeed, and the majority of the game's users were unable to connect to one another. The game finished in record time, as the Empire thrashed the Rebellion soundly and with few real setbacks. It remains the shortest Galactic Conquest game to date. It also marks the single time that long-standing rebel leader lil_literalist played for the Imperial team.

    Participants:
    Gamemasters: darkknight109, adamg0d
Imperials (winners): adamg0d, darkknight109, accessgranter, Krudin, GuardianAnubite lil_literalist
Rebels (losers): swjm, Wing Phenoix, utelektr, Raynos, Antican, Coverbird

    Notable Conflicts:
The Lehon Rout: (Turn 2) In the opening attack of GC3, Imperial Admiral Krudin was sent at the Rebel border world with a sizable fleet composed of an Imperial Star Destroyer and four Victory Star Destroyers. Arrayed against them was four Assault Frigates assigned to defend the planet. By the credit numbers, the battle should have gone in the Empire's favour; instead it was a crushing Rebel victory, with the Imperials barely escaping with any ships still intact. It was here that the importance of high-tech ships was first realised and the Empire quickly had to revamp their outlook on R&D as a result.
The Zonama Sekot Massacre: (Turn 6) In the late stages of the war, the small fleet of Imperial Admiral Krudin was sent to claim the Rebel capital world of Zonama Sekot and deal a crushing blow to the rebel war effort. Seeing the nascent threat, the Rebels invested in a sizable defence, composed of a Dauntless Cruiser and two Bulwark Battlecruisers, the strongest ships the Rebels could muster. However, the Imperials would not be drawn into a straight up capital ship brawl. Seeing the lack of starfighter defence, Admiral Krudin's fleet was outfitted with three escort carriers and just under 30 squadrons of TIE Defenders. The starfighter swarm annihalated the rebel fleet, tearing down all three ships and taking no losses in return. It would signal the third straight defeat for the Rebel forces.

THE DARK AGES OF THE NEO-223
    June 2008 - September 2008

After the rapid growth seen during the Age of Expansion, the Neo-223 unexpectedly entered into a period of stagnation and idleness. Plans for a Galactic Conquest prequel (GC0) and a new sequel involving three teams instead of the usual two (GC4) were drawn up by darkknight109 and Admiral_Wedge_Antilles respectively, but both were cancelled due to inactivity. With no active games to sustain it, the community slowly dwindled, with even long-standing members falling inactive. Worse, the board's administrator, adamg0d, had dissapeared, drawn offline due to issues in his personal life. For four months the board hovered on the edge of total collapse, with only a handful of posts keeping it alive. Finally, out of desperation, darkknight109 created a new game in the hopes that it would breath new life into the community. It worked; slowly but surely old community members reappeared. The return of adamg0d signalled the end of The Dark Ages of the Neo-223, ushering in an era of prosperity that has never been matched before or since.

The Neo-Neo-223 and the Lightning War of Galactic Conquest

In an effort to revitalize the Neo-223, darkknight109 proposed a new Galactic Conquest game. Rather than being a numbered installment to the series, this Galactic Conquest would be a standalone game and was designed to be played in a single day. The game was stripped down to its bare essentials, with no mission cards and a simplified tech ladder. Issues with even getting the game started were numerous in the extreme. Seeing the problems with Rebellion, darkknight109 had gone through and done a complete balance revamp on all the existing starships, bringing them more in-line with their costs. However, simming battles with Rebellion was both time-consuming and unreliable, which led DK to draft up a new method of simming that could be done by hand, quickly and efficiently. Even with this new tool, getting the game running was not easy. With adamg0d AWOL, darkknight109 was unable to create new boards to run the game. Instead, he was forced to create a new forum to host the so-called "Lightning Round" of Galactic Conquest. This board, officially titled the "Neo 223", but more commonly referred to as the Neo-Neo-223 (or simply the Neo-Neo), was to serve as a satellite board for the main Neo-223. Finally, after a series of scheduling issues and setbacks, the game was started on September 7, 2008. Though DK had hoped the game would run smoothly with one turn every fifteen minutes, even the pen-and-paper sim method introduced delays, prompting a mid-game strip-down of some of the more extraneous parts of the formulas. After nearly six solid hours of playing, with only a brief break for dinner, the game was still deadlocked and the participants decided to call it a night. Rather than play the game in a single day, it was eventually decided that sims would be done every day until the game ended, thus still capturing the essence of a fast-paced game. In a direct contradiction of its title, Galactic Conquest: Lightning would go on to be the longest Galactic Conquest game (in number of turns). The eventual victors were the Imperials, who won by slowly grinding down the enemy.

THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE NEO-223
    October 2008 - May 2009

As the community emerged from the Dark Ages of the Neo-223, the board once again flourished. Numerous games were created and enjoyed a great deal of prosperity. It was a time of unparalleled cooperation and success for the board, and new members from Ye Olde 223 were inducted to the ranks of the Neo-223 in significant numbers. This is arguably the time period when the Neo-223 truly established itself as the new home of Ye Olde 223's best, a safe haven from the trolls that had all but taken over the old boards.

The Zeroeth War of Galactic Conquest

The so-called "Zeroeth War of Galactic Conquest" was designed as a precursor to the original Galactic Conquest. It used a streamlined version of the Pen-and-Paper simulation method created for GCL. GC0 was notable for introducing a slew of new features that users had proposed over the years, but which had never been strongly considered. The map was noticably larger than previous iterations of the game and, instead of being played horizontally or vertically, the two opposing teams were positioned on opposite corners, with the remaining two corners serving as "unknown space," containing hidden planets and secrets. Terrain was introduced for the first time, as well as minefields which could stall or weaken an enemy fleet. Additionally, besides the capital, there were several worlds that provided bonuses to whichever side controlled them. The game ran almost without a hitch, a first in Galactic Conquest history. A number of interesting player trends emerged as the game went on; accessgranter suffered from a crushing inability to win battles, being rebuffed time and time again by Rebel forces, while GuardianAnubite suffered from an inability to fight battles, constantly stumbling across empty rebel worlds bereft of defence fleets and taking them for the Empire. These trends eventually grew dire enough that the Empire refused to commit accessgranter's fleet to any battles until his in-character admiral was removed from service. The game set a record for longest number of turns without a direct attack; until Turn 6, the only battles fought were in neutral space, with neither side willing to commit their forces to an actual assault. For the second straight game, the Rebels displayed a hitherto unseen tenacity, putting up a valiant fight against the Imperials. However, the Empire was once again victorious, keeping their winning streak intact.

    The Birth of the RPGs

utelektr, hoping to provide a new home to an orphaned RPG and increase traffic to the board at the same time, invited an RPG-in-construction to the Neo-223. Although the RPG eventually collapsed and nearly all the new users left, one of them remained: MarioFanaticXV. With the original RPG no longer running, Mario offered to create a Star Wars RPG themed around the Imperial 501st Legion. The RPG, dubbed "A New Threat", was regarded with a great degree of interest amongst board regulars and soon a healthy RPG community was born. It was eventually suggested that darkknight109, the only other board member with prior experience in the Saga system, should also start up a campaign. darkknight109 made a proposal on March 31, 2009 and, after receiving a positive response from the community, Galaxy of Chaos was born on April 8. These RPGs would mark the dawn of a new era in the board, one where RPGs eclipsed the Galactic Conquest games as the primary draw of the boards.

The Fourth War of Galactic Conquest

Galactic Conquest 4 came hot on the heels of the successful GC0 and was designed in a similar fashion. With many of the hidden features in GC0 undiscovered, darkknight109 recycled the hidden worlds for GC4, hoping to see greater exploration in this area. While the Imperials mostly stuck to a direct assault, the Rebels were quite adventurous in their exploration. This resulted in them finding one of the game's superweapons, the Death Star.

More than any other Galactic Conquest in the past, save perhaps for GC1, GC4 was a hotbed for high tensions between several players and the GM. This tension eventually boiled over during the events of the Turn 32 schism, leading to the dissolution of GC4 with no clear victor.

    Notable Conflicts
The Adumar Blunder On Turn 17, the GFFA attacked Adumar with a fleet that was seemingly far superior to the Imperial defence fleet. However, a clerical error was discovered shortly after the sim where the GFFA had neglected to remove casualties from a previous battle. This led to the battle becoming significantly less favourable to the GFFA forces. A debate broke out on the proper course of action to take given the circumstances. Eventually, it was agreed that the battle would be resimmed without the extraneous ships. It resulted in the closest-fought battle in Galactic Conquest history, with only a single badly mauled Corellian Transport surviving on the rebel side, much to the chagrin of the Imperial players.

    The Turn 32 Schism

The Turn 32 Schism simultaneously ended both The Fourth War for Galactic Conquest and The Golden Age of the Neo-223. It was an event that shook the entire community and it marked the first time that the board was paralyzed by internal disputes. Regrettably, it would not be the last.

After Turn 31 of GC4, darkknight109 was caught up in moving and there was a week-long delay between sims. adamg0d and accessgranter, growing impatient with the delay, began to post fake Turn 32 topics using darkknight109's posts. darkknight109 told them to stop and, after the fake topics continued, witheld the results of the sim until the topics ceased. Finally, in frustration, darkknight109 posted the sim results, but destroyed one of the mines the Imperials had placed to trap one of the rebel fleets in retalliation for the prank. This action served to infuriate the Imperials, who saw it as an unfair abuse of GM power, while darkknight109 argued that the conduct of the two Imperial leaders had created the situation in the first place. Eventually, GC4 was declared a stalemate and ended with no clear victor. After the parties had two weeks to cool off and let the incident blow over, board events returned largely to normal, but the pall cast over Galactic Conquest by the Turn 32 affair would take almost a year to fully dissipate.

    THE AGE OF THE RPGS
    June 2009 - January 2010

With Galactic Conquest largely removed from the board's major activities following the Turn 32 schism, the Neo-223 fell back on RPGs to entertain themselves. The original RPG, A New Threat/Brothers at Arms, continued to enjoy widespread board attention and the fledgling Galaxy of Chaos quickly gained momentum. Soon, several more RPGs arose, with more still in planning. Never before had the board had so many active games occuring at the same time. Brothers at Arms eventually shut down due to lack of activity, but the remainder of the RPGs flourished, with several thousand posts in story topics. For over half a year, these RPGs remained the focal point of the board, until the community was unexpectedly rocked by the events that would create the Age of Strife.

    The Admin Controversy

On Oct. 21, 2009 MarioFanaticXV created a topic suggesting that darkknight109 be promoted to the position of forum administrator. Root admin adamg0d took an interest in the petition and asked for the board's opinion on the matter. In the following weeks, nearly every regular member of the board voiced support of the idea. It was expected that with such support, adamg0d would agree with the petition and promote darkknight109. However, adamg0d eventually posted that because he did not see a need for a new admin at present, darkknight109 would not be promoted and would remain a global moderator until such a need arose. This sparked significant controversy and debate, much of which was carried on in private, as to how pertinent the issue of a second admin was and whether adam had the right to deny a clear majority of the board. The discussion continued for several months, at times growing increasingly heated, until it was closed shortly before the events of The Sundering.

    THE AGE OF STRIFE
    February 2010 - June 2010

In early February of 2010, the board was unexpectedly rocked by the single-most cataclysmic event in its entire history. The following two months were characterized by heated fighting, bitter arguments, and nearly every activity on the entire board grinding to a sudden halt, culminating in a massive board move to a new forum.

    The Sundering

The event that would later become known as The Sundering had its roots deep in the board's history, although it can be most reliably traced to tension created during The Admin Controversy. Several users, upset with adamg0d's unwillingness to promote a second administrator, took the matter up with him privately and continued to speak with him in the months leading up to The Sundering. adamg0d soon grew weary of the constant arguments, then frustrated with them. Several public attempts were made to dismiss the issue, but they met with little success.

The fuse was lit in earnest in late January of 2010, when darkknight109 played a practical joke on adamg0d. He ceased responding to adamg0d's posts in the Galaxy of Chaos RPG, meant partially as retribution for a restrictive word filter adam had put in place in late December of 2009. After a week of silence, darkknight109 finally revealed the joke on January 31 and decided to move on with the game.

On February 1, 2010, adamg0d resigned from Galaxy of Chaos, banned the user Antican, and accused darkknight109 of attempting to use the Neo-Neo-223 to seize power over the community. darkknight109, insulted by the accusation, replied with an incindiary post of his own, and the situation escalated rapidly, drawing the entire board into the conflict. Arguments, mostly centred on the Galaxy of Chaos boards, raged unabated for several days. The other games on the board soon ground to a halt as a result of the increasing turmoil between the board members. adamg0d stripped darkknight109 of his global moderator status, causing no small amount of havoc in the boards darkknight109 was in charge of, and promoted longstanding member lil_literalist to serve as a replacement. In response, darkknight109 moved Galaxy of Chaos to the Neo-Neo-223 and resigned from the Star Wars: Distribution RPG, of which adamg0d was a co-GM. adamg0d then deleted darkknight109's workshop board and announced that the Galaxy of Chaos forums would similarly be deleted a few days later. Bereft of mod powers and unable to move the relevent topics to an archive forum, darkknight109 moved all story topics to his private board, which were soon also threatened with deletion in 24 hours by adamg0d. The fued finally culiminated when adamg0d entered darkknight109's private board to retrieve the story topics and was caught in doing so by darkknight himself. This prompted a widespread board discussion on the conflict, which finally ended the next day with a truce being declared between the two board members. However, although the immediate fighting was over, the damage had been done and the board's status had been irrepairably changed.

    The Great Division

In late 2009, darkknight109 had formally requested admin status from adamg0d in order to run the Galaxy of Chaos RPG securely and in the manner he required to keep several aspects of the game secret from their players. The alternative he had proposed was moving the game over to the Neo-Neo-223, where he had administrator status. adamg0d did not support either option and insisted the game could be run adequately with himself as the sole administrator. darkknight109 stated that because adamg0d was a player in the game, he should not be privvy to the gamemaster's secrets.

During the events of The Sundering, darkknight109 followed through on his plan to move the game to the Neo-Neo-223, largely in response to the hostility between himself and adamg0d. Shortly thereafter, a new game of Galactic Conquest - dubbed Galactic Conquest Classic - was started by darkknight109 and was also moved to the new boards. The establishment of a second, active board effectively tore the community across two forums, both of which were still rife with hostility and anger. Mounting dissatisfaction caused both boards to stagnate and, for a time, the future of the community appeared to be in jeopardy.

This state of affairs lasted for just over a month until March 15, 2010, when darkknight109 finally aquiesced to community wishes and returned Galaxy of Chaos to the original boards.

    The adamg0d/darkknight109 talks

Following the truce declared after The Sundering, darkknight109 and adamg0d engaged in a series of private discussions on how best to mend the damage that had been created by the conflict. The talks remained mostly civil considering the strife the board had just been through, but nonetheless the two board members found themselves on opposite sides of a deep division.

adamg0d offered to restore darkknight109's status as a global moderator and his private board and in return wanted Galaxy of Chaos back on the Neo-223, thus restoring the previous status quo. darkknight109 saw the offers as hollow re-gifts of posessions that were already his. He insisted that in order for the board to return to normal, he should be promoted to admin, burying the hatchet for good and leaving no disputes outstanding, a stance which adamg0d rejected.

In spite of several hours of discussion, no conclusion was ever reached and the two eventually gave up and left the board divided.

The Reunification and The Great Exodus

On March 13, 2010, responding to considerable pressure from the greater community, darkknight109 begrudgingly agreed to return Galaxy of Chaos to the Neo-223, keeping Galactic Conquest Classic on the Neo-Neo-223. Though this move was well received by much of the board, it ultimately did little to solve the underlying tension. Feeling shortchanged, darkknight109 quietly withdrew from the board in general, posting infrequently at best for the next two weeks. Galaxy of Chaos saw little advancement and the stagnation of the board continued.

Finally, in frustration, on March 24, 2010 darkknight109 shut down Galaxy of Chaos for an indefinate period of time. The next day, he announced his resignation from the board's events, unable to shake the feelings of mistrust between himself and the board's administrator, adamg0d. In part of his post, darkknight109 hypothesized about a possible new board, one where neither he nor adamg0d were the root admin. This idea was discussed by the community at large and received considerable support, although several longstanding board members voiced their dissaproval of the move and administrator adamg0d refused to countenance the idea.

After a few hours of debate, accessgranter created the Neo-223's third incarnation, simply titled "223". It quickly earned the nickname "N3o-223", courtesy of lil_literalist. Over the next two weeks, every one of the board's regulars moved to the new board, save for adamg0d himself. lil_literalist was elected to serve as the board's root administrator by popular vote. lil eventually appointed The Unchosen One, who had been the runner up in the final round of the root admin elections, and darkknight109 to serve as co-admins. The selection of darkknight109 as an administrator was seen as controversial by several board members and it was eventually brought to a board vote, but the results allowed darkknight109 to keep his position.

The move appeared to have served its purpose; the tension that had plagued the board for close to three months slowly began to dissipate. The Distribution and Path to Damnation RPGs were put on hold, but Galaxy of Chaos, Sound of Freedom, and Rise of Legends continued on strong. Slowly but surely, the board began to heal.

The Classic War of Galactic Conquest

The Classic War of Galactic Conquest was darkknight109's return to Galactic Conquest, having not participated in any GC games since the end of Galactic Conquest 4. It was created during the heat of the Age of Strife partially to draw more activity to the Neo-Neo-223 and prevent its stagnation. Galactic Conquest Classic was a call back to the earliest days of GC. Much like the original game, it featured 15 planets a side, a single capital, five fleets, and no mines, terrain, hidden planets, or mission cards. The only additions were the use of the new pen and paper system - retooled slightly to address concerns that were brought up during GC4 - and a simplified tech ladder.

The game started strong, with both teams launching an aggressive battle plan. Six turns passed without either side gaining a credit advantage for even a turn. Finally, the Imperials were able to briefly seize the lead, before it began to swing back and forth between the two factions.

However, around the game's tenth turn, it fell into stagnation. GuardianAnubite mysteriously dissapeared from the boards and Sniperfish was caught up in trying to purchase and move into a new house. With no active Imperials, the game was placed on hold, and eventually dissolved.

    Participants:
    Gamemaster: darkknight109
    Imperials: GuardianAnubite, Sniperfish
Galactic Federation of Free Alliances members: lil_literalist, The Unchosen One, Antican, dark lancer, ObiRobKenobi

    2010 Olympic Games

On February 28, 2010, Canada scored in overtime to win the Gold Medal Men's Hockey Game. Suck it, America.

Much rejoicing was had on the boards and longstanding member antican was renamed procan in celebration, complete with new sig and avatar.

    The Fall of the Neo-223

The Age of Strife was finally brought to a close by a final action commited by adamg0d that stunned the community. Of all of the board's original members, adamg0d was the one most adamantly against the board move. After refusing to de-admin himself or promote another to the position, adamg0d stated his refusal to move from the original Neo-223. Within a week, an overwhelming majority of the community had placed their support behind the new board and activity on the Neo-223 dwindled to a handful of posts a day. adamg0d remained, but soon he was the only one who had not signed up to the new board.

In response, adamg0d began sweeping deletions of various boards. All RPGs under construction and all private boards were deleted and darkknight109 once again had his global mod status revoked. Shortly thereafter, the active RPGs and the Galactic Conquest Archives were also deleted and the remainder of the global mods were also de-modded.

The final blow came on the afternoon of April 15, 2010, when N3o-223 user yurklenorf noted that the board appeared to have been deleted entirely. Eventually it was discovered that adamg0d had changed the board URL and placed it offline, effectively shutting it down. The reactions from the board members ranged from shock and dissapointment to sorrow and anger. The oldest pieces of the Neo-223's history were now lost and only a few fragments of the posts from those days remained.

    The n3o-223 Civil War

Following the move to the n3o-223, tensions remained high for several months. Fights and arguments were relatively commonplace and hostility, though subdued, was rampant. New customs and policies were raised that largely did away with the uninhibited admin/mod conduct that had ruled over the neo-223.

adamg0d eventually returned to the board on May 29, engaging in a brief drunken posting spree before starting to post in earnest on June 11, amidst several ongoing arugments.

This eventually culminated with two suspensions meted out to SithSpaceRaptor on June 10th and June 28th, prompting a widespread board discussion. Tensions and fights coming from this discussion eventually led to The Unchosen One removing himself from the n3o-223 on June 30. After a board election, Brenz0r was selected to replace him for the board's third admin slot.

    THE AGE OF MEMES
    June 2009 - Present

Following the move to the n3o-223, the community began producing an unusually large number of memes in a very short timeframe. Some memes were created from single, popular topics, while others had been dormant for years and only matured into true memes thanks to the memetic passion of the age. This gave rise to the newest age of the 223 community: The Age of Memes.

    Meme Depository

    SSR Bans
    Source Topic: Unknown
Meme: If someone does - or threatens to do - something against the board rules, the mods/admins will threaten to ban SSR in response.
Background: During the n3o-223 Civil War, SSR received two temporary bans in close proximity. Some time later, during a discussion, SSR sarcastically commented that the mods were not allowed to ban anyone except him. DK ran with this quip and began threatening SSR with bans for events that did not involve him at all.

    DK Hates New Things
    Source Topic: http://z7.invisionfree.com/223/index.php?showtopic=2644
Meme: DK hates everything new by dint of it not being as good as the old days
Background: DK had a storied history of posting complaints about various new pieces of technology and lamenting how their older versions were better. On January 6, 2011, Face commented that DK's opinion on new items was invalid because he hated all new things. DK originally objected, but soon began to play along.

    DK's Gas Mask
    Source topic: http://z7.invisionfree.com/223/index.php?showtopic=162
Meme: DK wears a gas mask. All the time.
Background: Shortly after purchasing a 1990 Nintendo World Championships cartridge, DK posted picture of his prize on the forum. In it, all pictures of him had him wearing a gas mask. All subsequent pictures of him on the forum included this gas mask. Since then, it has been concluded that DK never removes the gas mask.

    Conscience Effort
Source topic: http://z7.invisionfree.com/223/index.php?showtopic=2560 [[Editor General's warning: You will lose IQ points reading through this topic]]
Meme: The phrase "Conscious Effort" is always misspelled as "Conscience Effort."
Background: During a heated argument, Mario claimed that he would make a "conscience effort" to ignore trolls in his topics, before making critiques on the grammar of others. When his own error was pointed out to him, he steadfastly refused to admit wrongdoing, despite an overwhelming amount of evidence against him. Since then, as a constant reminder of the argument, board members posted the phrase as "conscience effort."

    DK's Spiders
    Source Topic: http://z7.invisionfree.com/223/index.php?showtopic=1540, http://z7.invisionfree.com/223/index.ph ... c=1978&hl=
Meme: DK is secretly plotting world domination with a horde of intelligent, hyper-violent, mind-controlling spiders. This is, of course, merely an elaborate joke. Ha ha ha.
Background: CorporateMastermind, suffering under a wasp infestation, polled the n3o-223 on the best method to get rid of them. DK offered to help by breeding him a horde of warrior-spiders that could easily crush the wasp menace. CorporateMastermind refused, but DK opted to continue his research anyways. Some time later, he posted a topic implying that the spiders had gone out of control and were rampaging through his laboratories and seeking his death. This was, of course, just a work of fiction and no such rampage ever took place. DK's spiders are, in fact, completely harmless and furthermore, do not even exist. Ha ha ha.

    /\
    Source Topic: http://z7.invisionfree.com/223/index.php?showtopic=3137
Meme: /\ is used as a synonym for "drunk."
Background: While someone was drunk-posting on the board, they made a single post containing "/\". The definition stuck.

    SSR's Injuries
    Source Topic: Unknown
Meme: SSR is easily injured and constantly hopped up on painkillers
Background: SSR suffers from back pain and pays someone to jab hot needles into his spine (DK has volunteered to do this for free, but thus far no agreement has been reached). He was also prescribed high-strength painkillers to deal with the pain. After joining Krav Maga, SSR suffered several other minor injuries. The board soon noticed a trend regarding SSR getting constantly injured and thus it was memefied.

    Badgers
    Source Topic: http://z7.invisionfree.com/223/index.php?showtopic=2538
Meme: DK (and others) confuse kittens and badgers
Background: soup posted two pictures of animals with stuffed toys, one of which DK insisted was a badger. DK pointed out numerous features of the creature which pointed to it clearly being a badger but, for some reason, the rest of the board refused to face facts.

    access's Girl Problems
Source Topic: -Lost to the depths of the Neo-223-
Meme: access is an eternal bachelor, unable to secure the attentions of a female for breeding purposes.
Background: access has, over the course of the years, posted several topics asking for advice on dating girls. This being a forum of Star Wars nerds, we were, of course, experts in the field. Much advice was given, but the price was access's poor dating luck being relegated to the status of board meme.

    The Minecraft Server

In mid-2010, Minecraft began its meteoric rise to popularity and the n3o-223 was soon swept up in the mania. When a multiplayer mode was introduced, it was decided that the 223 community would purchase its first official server. On November 29, 2010, the 223 Minecraft server went online. It enjoys a small, yet loyal userbase to this day.

    THE AGE OF ENDING

    The End Times

On August 24, 2013, Antican unilaterally decided to convert the forum from Invision to Zetaboards and, in doing so, ruined the Neo-223 forever.

Excellent write-up, DK. I always wandered what happened between when I left and came back. It was also good to remember the battles for Coruscant - my only contributions to any of the GC games.

Great job, DK. I think I speak for everyone when I say a written history is something the board needs, but we're all too lazy to do it. Except for you, obviously.

I may go back and edit in summaries of the RPGs, along with their approximate starting dates (sadly, I can't get the actual dates anymore, save for the ones that were started on this board...). Also, I'm still looking for anyone who's willing to write up a summary for Warlords 2-4 and GC5.
